How To Play Solo (& What This Mode Changes) in Elden Ring: Nightreign

A lone Nightfarer

While we all thought Elden Ring: Nightreign would be a co-op-only game, it turns out it has a solo mode and even an offline one for those who want to explore Limveld alone. Actually, you can complete the whole game by never interacting with another player. Also, you won’t miss out on a lot if you focus on solo play. Playing offline is a whole other thing, however, but we’ll also go into details about that. Without further ado, here’s a guide on how the solo and offline modes of Elden Ring: Nightreign work.

Solo Mode in Elden Ring: Nightreign, Explained

Assuming you’re playing online, you can access the solo mode of Elden Ring: Nightreign by editing your expedition settings. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Head to the Roundtable.
  2. Select “Commence Expedition.”
  3. Go to the second tab, which has the Matchmaking Settings.
  4. Scroll all the way down and change the Expedition Type to Singleplayer.

Once that’s done, just return to the first tab, select the Nightlord you are pursuing, and you’ll head on your own. However, there are a few things to remember before you venture into Limveld alone.

  • You need to pick your character first.
    • As a solo player, there is no character selection screen, so change into the Nightfarer you want to bring.
  • Enemy HP scales down.
    • All foes still hit as hard and come in big numbers. However, their HP is scaled down significantly, making it easier for solo players.
  • Merchants will sometimes have a revive item.
    • The Wending Grace is an item that grants you one free revive, but it only appears in a Merchant’s inventory if you’re playing solo. It costs 10,000 Runes.
  • If you die during a boss fight, at the end of a day, or when facing the Nightlord, there are no revives.
    • Unless you have the abovementioned item, there’s no way to revive yourself if you fall during a boss fight at the end of a day. If you die to a boss during the day, you can return for your Runes and continue fighting, though.

Offline Mode Differences

Besides the obvious fact of not being able to play with others, another thing you won’t be able to see is Nightfarer Remains. These red spirits appear only if you’re online, and interacting with them will give you the fallen Nightafarer’s loot. Using these armaments will increase their power for subsequent players who find the same remains.

Other than that, it seems that things do not change that much. There are Shifting Earth events that occur after defeating certain bosses, and these also seem to work offline. The same happens with some enemy invasions and other random events. You can experience everything on your own with the abovementioned feature being the only exception.
